The Town Council has been informed of various roadworks that are being carried out in Ponteland between July and September 2021.  We want to notify residents as soon as possible as there will be inevitable delays.

Northern Gas Networks are carrying out works on North Road and West Road as detailed in the information below.  The work is to replace the existing metal gas pipes with more durable plastic ones to ensure the continued, safe and reliable gas supply to their customers. These works have been carefully planned and Northern Gas Networks are working with Northumberland County Council to ensure works have as little impact as possible. Northern Gas Networks have carefully considered the timing of the works to coincide with the schools breaking up for summer on Friday 16th July 2021.  Traffic in the area is expected to significantly reduce during this time, meaning the works won’t have as much of an impact.

Phase one of the roadworks includes a total closure of North Road from the Blackbird to The Grange and this is starting from Saturday 17th July and will include weekend working.

See details below from Northern Gas Networks (NGN):

North Road

Phase one

On Saturday 17th July 2021 NGN will begin works on North Road, Ponteland. These works will take up to 4 weeks to complete, should they come across no engineering difficulties.

Due to the location of the gas main and the safety of the local community and the workforce, a joint decision has been made between Northern Gas Networks and Northumberland County Council to close the road from The Blackbird Inn, to just past the entrance to The Grange. Residents who live within this closure will still have access from the top of the closure (Heading south). The road will be completely blocked for motorists heading North.   This will be for a period of two weeks if works go according to plan but could be longer is any problems occur.

There will be a diversion in place for all motorists. The traffic management is likely to cause delays, so please allow extra travel time.

Phase two

Works will then start on North Road at the junction into Jackson Avenue. NGN plan for these works to start on Monday 9th August 2021 and last for 3 weeks. This phase should have minimal impact on residents.

West Road

Phase three

Finally, works will start on West Road on 16th August lasting up to four weeks.  Due to the location of the gas main on West Road, it will be necessary to use temporary traffic lights to allow for the safety of the community and the NGN workforce. All residents will maintain access.

Community Drop-in session – Monday 12th July between 4.00 and 6.00 p.m.

Northern Gas Networks are hosting a community drop-in session at Bishop Merton Room, St Mary The Virgin Church Hall, Thornhill Rd, Ponteland, Newcastle upon Tyne NE20 9PZ, on Monday 12th July between the hours of 4pm and 6pm.  This has been detailed in the letters sent out to residents, and via social media.

All of these works have been planned in co-ordination with Northumberland County Council, and they are aware of the traffic management and works method NGN will be using to complete these works.
