A four day festival of fun and celebration is being planned for Ponteland to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Ponteland has applied to be a Beacon Town, as it has been on previous special national occasions, including for the Queen’s 90th Birthday in 2016. A chain of beacons will be lit across Britain on the evening of June 2nd, marking the start of Ponteland’s celebrations.
On Thursday 2nd June we are asking residents to congregate at Coates Green from 8.30pm. There will be music provided by the North Tyneside Steel Band, creating a wonderful atmosphere at the start of the weekend of celebrations. This will be followed by the piper who will be playing until the Beacon (on the top of St Mary’s Church) is lit at 9.45pm.
The Town Council have encouraged families, friends and neighbours to start plan their celebrations. The Town Council have provided grants to community groups to assist them with creating a memorable event to celebrate this occasion.
Ponteland Rugby Club will be hosting their annual Beer Festival at the Ponteland Leisure Centre Rugby Pitch on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th June 2022. Details are available on their website: www.pontelandbeerfestival.co.uk
On Sunday 5th June 2022 there will be Party in the Park. This annual event is expected to be bigger and better this year as it incorporates the Jubilee theme and is held in the beautiful Ponteland Park. Starting at 1pm it is a real family fun day out. Admission is only £1 with under 5s free.
There will be stalls and activities, plus a children’s fancy dress parade for any royal costume – from princess to knight in armour, king to court jester. There will be a small prize for every entrant, sponsored by Ponteland Town Council. Children of all ages should raid their fancy dress box and come along to the Children’s Tent at 3pm.
The day will close with a Duck Race at 4.30pm, organised by Ponteland Rotary.
