
The Events Working Party of the Town Council have made plans to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III which will take place over the weekend of 6 to 8 May. There is an extra bank holiday on Monday 8 May. The coronation itself takes place on 6 May.
Communities are being encouraged to participate in the Big Lunch on Sunday 7 May.
Monday 8 May will be the Big Help Out which is to encourage organisations and individuals to do something voluntary for their communities.
Ponteland will be decorated with displays and bunting. The shop window displays competition is taking place again, this took place for the first time to celebrate HM the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and proved popular.
There will be a £200 prize for the best window in each of the tree areas of Main Street and Bell Villas, Merton Way and on Broadway.
A competition for schoolchildren to design a poster with a coronation theme has been announced to the four junior schools in Ponteland and Darras Hall. Entries must be received by the Town Council by 10.00 a.m. on Monday 24 April. A winner and two runners up will be chosen from each school. The four winners will each receive a £20 Amazon gift voucher and the runners up a £10 voucher.
There will also be a fun ‘Spot the Crowns’ trail for families to participate in. Ten businesses are being asked to put a gold crown in their window from 24 April which will be displayed until Tuesday 9 May and the locations will be revealed on our website following the coronation weekend.
The Council also want to announce that grants of between £25 and £100 will be available to groups, organisations and care homes to celebrate the coronation.
