Services

Ponteland Town Council provides local government services not covered by Northumberland County Council within the parish of Ponteland.

The county council provides strategic services including benefits, council tax, education, highways, housing, leisure and tourism, planning, refuse collection and social services.

Town council services include maintaining Ponteland Park, the village green, floral displays and play areas, managing allotments and Prestwick Cemetery, and providing litter and dog bins.

PONTELAND TOWN COUNCIL  – WHAT WE DO

 

Flower/shrub beds – planted and maintained:

  • Merton Way shopping centre
  • Broadway shopping centre
  • Main Street – planters outside Barclays bank and Lloyds bank
  • Coates Institute Garden
  • Coates Green
  • Rockery by bus shelter
  • Planter and barrels on North Road
  • Entrances to Ponteland on A696 (barrels)
  • ‘Triangle’ bed at bottom of Merton Way
  • Shrubbery on West Road and on path to fitness centre
  • Cut grass/plant and maintain – raised area in front of Library
  • Fund summer hanging baskets

 

Park:

  • Litter clearance
  • Path and bridge maintenance
  • Lake and river – safety equipment and river checked

 

Play Areas – Callerton Lane, Twizell Place and Guardians Court:

  • Checked daily, equipment maintained, litter collection and removal of graffiti

 

Prestwick Cemetery

  • Services provided by Northumberland County Council through a Service Level Agreement

 

Public Toilets – cleaned and locked 7 days a week (Contractors)

 

Bridleway from Callerton Lane to Airport:

  • Litter picked weekly
  • Overgrowth cut back as necessary

 

Gritting:

  • Merton Way and Broadway Shopping Centres
  • Thornhill Road (pensioners’ bungalows)
  • Main Street

 

Dog waste collection (Contract service):

Park (4); Edge Hill; Western Way; Callerton car park; Callerton Lane play area; behind Diamond Inn; Thornhill Road; North Road (Eland Green); by footbridge on path from Main Street to Callerton Lane; The Glebe; North Road (cut through)

 

Notice boards and seats throughout the Parish:

  • Maintained and replaced (sometimes by Memorial seats)

 

Bus shelters – Main Street (2), Eastern Way, Prestwick Road Ends (2), Dalton

  • Maintained and painted

 

Allotments – managed and maintained
