Remembrance 2018

This year marked the 100 anniversary since the end of the First World War and Ponteland came together as a community to remember the fallen. The village turned silent at the Remembrance Parade and again in the evening as Beacons across our lands where lit. It was a time for reflection and gratitude to those who lost their lives.

28 July 1914 to 11 November 1918.

The total number of military and civilian casualties in World War I, was around 40 million. There were 20 million deaths and 21 million wounded. The total number of deaths includes 9.7 million military personnel and about 10 million civilians.
