Ponteland secures a fourth Gold Award at Northumbria in Bloom 2015

A superb effort by the Town Council and various local organisations and volunteers has seen Ponteland secure Gold once again at the Northumbria In Bloom awards.

The village collected four gold awards and a silver gilt at an awards ceremony held in Berwick, presented by local TV celebrity John Grundy and hosted by BBC Radio Newcastle’s Garden Mania presenter Marian Foster, who hails from Ponteland.

The awards received were:

  • Small Town – Gold (Ponteland)
  • Grounds of care homes – Gold (Athol House)
  • Sports grounds – Gold (Ponteland Bowls and Tennis Clubs)
  • Allotment associations – Gold (Prestwick Allotments)
  • Public houses and hotels – Silver Gilt (The Diamond Inn)
  • Public house and hotels – Gold (The Blackbird)
  • Business Parks – Gold (Prestwick Business Park)
  • Residential Communities – Gold (Peel house)

Meanwhile Mary Short was one of five shortlisted in the ‘Outstanding contributions to Northumbria in bloom by private individuals’ category for her work at Athol House.
