Ponteland once again chosen to Represent Northumbria in Britain in Bloom Finals 2018

Ponteland has once again been selected to represent Northumbria in the small- town category in the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Britain in Bloom UK Finals 2018.

Ponteland secured a Silver gilt award in the ‘small towns’ category in Britain in Bloom in 2017 and were delighted with such a good result for a first-time entry.

Ponteland has secured the coveted gold award in the ‘small towns’ category in Northumbria in Bloom each year since 2012.

Ponteland is one of 76 other Britain in Bloom finalists competing to be crowned one of the cleanest, greenest and most beautiful places in the UK.

The efforts of everyone involved will contribute to the millions of bulbs, seasonal plants, perennials, shrubs and trees being planted around the UK by over 2,500 Britain in Bloom and It’s Your Neighbourhood groups transforming areas into green spaces that benefit both people and the environment.

Can we encourage as many groups as possible to enter “It’s Your Neighbourhood”.    Details can be found on the Town Council website or on the RHS site.   The link is https://www.rhs.org.uk/Communities/Campaigns/Britain-in-Bloom/Get-Involved

Councillor Alan Varley, Mayor to Ponteland Town Council said that “Ponteland is delighted to be selected for a second year running to enter this competition and it is hoped that this will continue to produce a feel-good factor amongst the community.  We hope that the many businesses, organisations and individuals who gave us so much support in 2017 will continue to assist this year.”

In August there will be a tour with the Britain in Bloom judges as Ponteland makes a bid to win an award.  The winners will be announced at the Britain in Bloom awards ceremony in October 2018.

Big plans are underway and over the next few months we will let you know the details through the Town Council website and Face book as well as in PNV.

We hope to involve residents, businesses and organisation in this exciting venture.

If you would like to get involved please contact the Clerk to the Council, Kath Mavin at enquiries@ponteland-tc.gov.uk or ring 01661 825092.
