Initial proposals for new Parliamentary constituency boundaries in the North East

Initial proposals for new Parliamentary constituency boundaries in the North East

The Boundary Commission is currently consulting on new Parliamentary constituency boundaries in England..

The number of parliamentary constituencies in England will be reduced from 533 to 501 and in the North East, the number of constituencies will reduce from 29 to 25.

The proposals will affect Ponteland as it is suggested that the current Ponteland East and Stannington (county council) ward would move from the Hexham constituency to a new constituency called Newcastle upon Tyne North West. This means that if the proposals go ahead Ponteland will be served by two MPs instead of one.

For all local government services all Ponteland residents would continue to be served by Northumberland County Council and Ponteland Town Council.

If you wish to comment on these proposals you have until 5 December to submit your comments. Please visit the website at www.bce2018.org.uk which has more details on how to respond.
